Welcome to Whisperwind Kennel! I am Linda Blackie, breeder of Whisperwind Standard Poodles. Here at Whisperwind, I strive to consistently breed excellent quality, healthy, intelligent dogs for the show ring and loving homes. My dogs have provided me with a tremendous amount of joy throughout my life. It brings me a great deal of happiness to see how much pleasure the dogs I’ve bred bring to other people as beloved pets and charismatic stars in the ring.
I have been showing dogs in Conformation for over thirty years. I purchased my first show dog and champion from Pinafore Kennel. Today I am proud to say that many successful kennels have used Whisperwind Standard Poodles as their foundations. I have bred over fifty champions in the Conformation ring including multiple Best In Show winners, as well as dogs with Obedience and Agility titles.
My dogs have won many esteemed shows including Winners Dog and Awards of Merit at PCA, the Poodle Club of America’s National Specialty. Yet, the most prestigious accomplishment of my professional career has been that of Best In Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 1991 with Ch Whisperwind's On A Carousel, better known as Peter.
Peter won a total of 101 Best In Shows and was the top winning Standard Poodle of his time. He has left a legacy in the pedigrees of many Standard Poodles today. In fact, most white Standard Poodles currently in the show ring can find Whisperwind dogs in their pedigrees.
My dogs and I have been featured in Poodle Variety, Poodle Review, and The Complete Poodle by Del Dahl. I am a member of The Poodle Club of America (PCA), The Greater Pittsburgh Poodle Club, and I am a charter member of The Altoona Area Kennel Association, at which I attend handling class regularly.
I am still actively breeding and showing dogs and welcome inquiries regarding my poodles. I carefully screen all prospective clients in order to ensure that all of my dogs are given excellent care. Whether a dog is a champion or a companion, a Whisperwind Standard Poodle will be your friend for its lifetime.
